What is Dimethylglycine?
Dimethylglycine is a nitrogenous organic acid derived from glycine with the structural formula (CH₃)₂NCH₂COOH. dimethylglycine can be found in legumes and animal liver. Dimethylglycine can be obtained from the loss of a methyl group of glycine betaine. Dimethylglycine is also a by-product of choline metabolism.

Dimethylglycine has been suggested as a performance enhancer, immunostimulant, and for the treatment of autism, epilepsy, and mitochondrial disorders. However, there is no evidence to date that dimethylglycine is effective in the treatment of mitochondrial disorders. Published papers on the treatment of autism indicate no significant difference in treatment outcomes in the group administered dimethylglycine compared to the group administered placebo.
