L-Arginine is an alpha-amino acid and one of the 20 prevalent natural amino acids. In molecular genetics, the structures of the messenger RNAs, CGU, CGC, CGA, CGG, AGA, and AGG. are the nucleotide bases or genetic codons that code for the triad of arginine during protein synthesis. In mammalian life, arginine is classified as a non-essential amino acid that the body can produce on its own, but in times of stress or disease, more may be needed. It also depends on the developmental stage and health status of the organism. Premature infants cannot synthesize arginine in their bodies, making it important to supplement their nutrition with arginine. Arginine was first isolated from lentil seedling extract by Swiss chemist Ernst Schulz in 1886.
